Challenge
So, I was sitting at my computer looking at the photos and images in my Tumblr stream. I follow quite a few people with interests in depictions of sex and sexuality, nudity, and photographic presentation of these and some other erotic activities. For some time now, I’ve noted a tendency for these types of photos and photographic art to favor the use of slim to very thin (at times, almost prepubescent) female models. While they are beautiful, they also represent unrealistic cultural standards and unreasonable versions of bodies serving as the basis for defining beauty in our culture. The greatest irony is that women who possess more realistic bodies present these images as an ideal to be desired. Personally, I prefer the soft, warm curves of a woman’s body that falls outside the accepted cultural norm.
Therefore, I would like to challenge anyone who watches or comes across my blog to provide images or links to images of women they consider beautiful, yet, in some way, do not fit into society’s ideal of female beauty. For this reason, I will be allowing photo replies on Tumblr, and media attachments are permitted in Disqus comments. At some point, I will collect and present the images that have been submitted.
